expix article blackFollowng on from our last report about helping the skaters in Rochdale getting a purpose built skate park in Rochdale we have been doing some home work and have been genuinely surprised at the amount of activity around the area with skaters, bmxers and MTB's all of which seem to be 'underground' and self sufficient when it comes to where to ride.

Obviously skaters wil pick anywhere flat, smooth, possibly with obstacle to 'grind' or the like but what about the bikers, downhill, bmx, verts, flatland, where do these guys ride?

The local skaters have been finding unused ground to build makeshift ramps or travelling out of town, but the bikers have a sight advantage at the moment. A bmx track in Heywood has recently been refurbished at a cost of approx 18000 and is currently being well used, but its not for those who want to do back flips, tricks and big airs. Instead this type of riding is currently being catered for by the skate parks or one or two private / farmers fields where the guys can ride without any issues.

We went along to a dirt track with a couple of the guys to see what they were up too and once again were amazed at the numbers there mid week, especially as this place isnt very well known and definately isnt publicised for fear of being closed down. So we wont tell you where it is.
