British Kitesurf Championship at Hunstanton Lifestyles

Lifestyles Festival Hunstanton 2014

After a year’s break, the Lifestyles Festival returned once more to Hunstanton. Organised by the Lifestyles Association, a set of volunteers from the Hunstanton Sailing Club; Lifestyles is Norfolk’s biggest extreme sports and lifestyles festival.

With the festival now in its 10th year, the event crew at Hunstanton have plenty of experience in putting on events and always managed to produce and action packed weekend. Whether its land or water based sports that you’re in to, if you’re a competitor or spectator, or if you just fancy having a go but don’t know where to start; then Lifestyles is the place to be.

There’s a whole host of demos, competitions and ‘Have a Go Sessions’ in; kitesurfing, windsurfing, S.U.P. kayaking, BMX, skate, inline, scooter, parkour, climbing, street art and  street dance and to finish each day off there’s a music festival.

The Hunstanton Sailing Club is well used by watersports enthusiast across Norfolk and as the HQ for the weekend, has always played an important part in the event. The facilities were already good; changing rooms, toilets, showers, kitchen and bar but thanks to the securing of funding and the hard work of the club members, the transformation of the club is amazing. The downstairs has been revamped and a new storey has been added giving an extra meeting room and bar. Next on the list is a balcony which will complete this redesign and we’re sure the results will be stunning.

As the only BKSA freestyle event of the year, the kitesurfers were more than pleased to see wind at Hunstanton. The Junior competition ran on Saturday and Sunday was given over to the Ams, Seniors and Pro comps. It was great to see the kitesurf event so well supported, especially by some of the more iconic pro riders and it was good to see these riders sharing their expertise with some of the less experienced riders.

There were some good demos on the parkour course and the skate and BMX riders wowed the crowds with their stunts on the street course.

Back on the water and the SUP and kayaks made use of the light winds on Saturday whilst the windsurfers were first to hit the sea on Sunday morning.
